Big Idea: Measure the gain, and not the gap 👇🏼

Over the past few weeks, I’ve been rereading "The Gap and The Gain," a book by Benjamin Hardy and Dan Sullivan. It’s about how we measure progress in our lives and our work - a theme that resonates strongly with anyone keen on optimizing productivity.
We all have an "ideal," a vision of perfection that we aspire to. However, this ideal is a moving target, always just out of reach. When we measure our progress against this ideal, we fall into the 'gap'. This is a space filled with dissatisfaction, frustration, and a sense of never quite achieving enough, no matter how much we accomplish.
On the other hand, when we measure ourselves against our previous selves - our past achievements, skills, and knowledge - we're in the 'gain'. This is where we acknowledge and appreciate our progress, boosting motivation, confidence, and setting the stage for future success.
The beauty of the 'gain' way of thinking is that it allows us to focus on intrinsic motivation, encouraging us to pursue what we want without unhealthy attachments. It's about being in harmony with our desires, and not feeling compelled to chase external markers of success.
So, why is it important to measure the gain and not the gap?
Boosts Motivation: Recognizing our own progress bolsters our motivation. It serves as a reminder of what we're capable of and inspires us to keep pushing forward.
Fosters Confidence: By acknowledging our accomplishments, we build a strong sense of self-confidence, which in turn can lead to better performance.
Promotes a Positive Mindset: Focusing on the gain helps maintain a positive mindset. It shifts our perspective from what we lack to what we have achieved, fostering gratitude and contentment.
Encourages Realistic Expectations: By measuring against our past selves, we set more realistic, achievable goals, reducing the risk of burnout and dissatisfaction.
Improves Productivity: When we see the progress we're making, it can spark a positive feedback loop that makes us more productive.
To implement this concept in your daily life, start by journaling three wins from your day before you go to bed. Then, write down the three biggest wins you expect for the next day. Do this consistently and see what happens!
In essence, always remember to measure backward, not forward. Embrace the gains you've made. You've come a long way, and you should celebrate that journey.

🛠️ Tool of the Week: MeetGeek
This AI Meeting Assistant is a Game Changer
I’ve been using MeetGeek for a few months now, after trying out several AI meeting summary tools. The best part? There’s a Notion integration that creates a new meeting page wherever you manage meeting notes in Notion.
The meeting summaries are the best of any tool I’ve tried, and the team is making useful updates regularly. A few of my clients have also started using it after auto-sending meeting summaries.
Definitely check it out if you need a meeting notes solution!
🤔 Did you know?
In Button automations, you can now automatically assign templates when creating new page!
Thanks to Ben Borowski at for sharing this update!
If you use buttons to create new pages or database entries, you can now apply a template to those pages. This is huge if you have project templates and use buttons to pre-populate projects with set tasks. Also if you’re curious how buttons work, check out this video tutorial, where we build a time tracker in Notion.
🙌🏼 That’s it for this week!
